The Commandant, Nigerian Navy School of Armament Technology (NNSAT), Kachia and Maritime Component Commander Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY), Commodore Chikaji Aminu Isah, inaugurated 328 Ratings-in-Training (RITs) comprising 58 First Rate, 62 Second Rate and 208 Third Rate RITs nominated for Fire Control and Quarter Armourer (FC/QA) Qualifying Courses I-III of Batches 26, 30 and 31, respectively. The inauguration ceremony was held at the School’s Dining Hall.
The Commandant stated that the Inauguration marked the commencement of a 6-month professional training programme designed to develop the technical knowledge, practical skills and professional competencies required of the Fire Control and Quarter Armourer in the Nigerian Navy. He noted that the trainees were carefully nominated based on their suitability and potential and charged them to justify the confidence reposed in them through discipline, commitment, resilience, and dedication to excellence throughout the training period.
The Commandant further emphasised the importance of strict compliance with Service regulations and the School’s code of conduct for RITs. He reiterated the School’s zero tolerance policy towards acts capable of undermining discipline and the integrity of the training, including drug abuse, malingering, drunkenness, absenteeism, fighting, quarreling, and offences against nature. He warned that any RIT found culpable of misconduct would be sanctioned in accordance with extant regulations and directed all RITs to conduct themselves in a manner befitting personnel of the Nigerian Navy.
The Commandant also charged the Training Commander, Instructors and Supporting Staff to continue to discharge their responsibilities with professionalism, fairness and dedication. He directed that training delivery should remain practical, current and aligned with the operational requirements of the NN to ensure that graduates of the courses possess the requisite capabilities to effectively operate, maintain and manage weapon systems in support of naval operations, including the joint operations on land. The inauguration formally market the commencement of the FC and QA Qualifying Courses I-III aimed at enhancing the operational effectiveness and technical capacity of participating personnel.
