The Commandant, Nigerian Navy School of Armament Technology (NNSAT), Commodore Chikaji Aminu Isah, who also serves as the Maritime Component Commander (MCC), Operation Fansan Yamma (OPFY), conducted an operational visit to Sectors 1 and 2 Areas of Responsibility (AOR) from 6 to 17 May 2026.
OPFY is the Defence Headquarters’ joint military operation established to combat banditry and terrorism across Nigeria’s North West region.
The visit formed part of the MCC’s routine operational engagements aimed at assessing ongoing operations, evaluating the security situation within the theatre, and interfacing directly with Maritime Component (MC) personnel deployed across various Forward Operating Bases (FOBs).
During the visit, Commodore Isah engaged troops deployed at FOBs KENYI, KAGARKO, RENNA, CINKA, DEGE DEGE, FASKARI, MAGAMI, DANSADAU, and KANGIWA. He received operational briefs, assessed troops’ welfare and operational challenges, and commended personnel for their resilience, professionalism, and commitment in the discharge of their duties.
The MCC reassured troops of DHQ/NN’s continued commitment to improving their welfare, morale, and operational effectiveness. He also directed the prompt resolution of identified administrative and welfare challenges affecting deployed personnel.
As part of the visit, the MCC held operational engagements with the Commander 1 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General M Jimoh; the Commander Sector 2 OPFY and General Officer Commanding 8 Division Nigerian Army, Major General BP Koughna; and the Theatre Commander OPFY, Major General WB Idris. Discussions centred on the prevailing security situation, operational synergy, and strategies aimed at sustaining ongoing operational gains within the theatre.
The operational visit concluded with the MCC’s return to Headquarters Maritime Component OPFY, Kachia, on 17 May 2026.
